8/28 Game Recap - Cowboys hold off Hebron, 26-20

Coppell rode two well-timed turnovers and a late touchdown, all in the fourth quarter, to emerge as the victor, 26-20, over the Hebron Hawks on Friday.

Coppell compiled close to 400 yards of total offense, with sophomore quarterback Brady McBride, who made his Coppell varsity debut, leading the way. McBride accounted for 248 total yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns. Junior running back Joe Fex added 104 yards and a touchdown.

Coming into Friday's game, the Cowboys looked to lean on their defense as the engine for earning a win, and they did just that. Coppell forced Hebron to rely on Clayton Tune, a first year starter at quarterback, and stifled a running game that has always been a strong point for the Hawks. Tune threw for 115 yards and two touchdowns, but it wasn't enough.

With time ticking down late in the final quarter and Hebron driving, Tune was stripped of the ball by a Coppell defensive player and recovered by the Cowboys. McBride then found senior receiver Josh Fink streaking down the field for a 70-yard touchdown to take the lead. On the ensuing Hawks possession, Hebron faced a crucial fourth-and-eight. However, senior defensive lineman AJ Stover-Grant took down Tune for a sack, and the ball came back to Coppell to run out the clock.

Coppell faces the McKinney Boyd Broncos at Buddy Echols Field on Friday night. Kickoff is at 7:30.

Upcoming Dates & Important Info from Coach DeWitt

The 2015 football season will begin before we know it! We are in one of the most competitive districts in the state, district 7-6A. Also, our non-district schedule is very competitive, including Cedar Hill who are the defending Division 2, 6A State Champions. We look forward to the challenge and have great expectations for all of our teams. We will have 5 teams consisting of – Varsity, JV Red, JV Black, Freshman White, and Freshman Silver. As a player no matter what team you are on, make sure you are continuing to prepare yourself to make the greatest contribution you can to your team. As a parent I encourage you to be involved with our program as much as you are able. Coppell is a great community and we need parents like you to encourage and support our student-athletes. This email includes important information for you. Please read the following as well as see the included attachment.
